Wednesday
Bike ride to Nyon, the medium sized town 10ish miles north of Commugny. The chateau there has been turned into a museum with a slightly bizarre blend of contemporary art and Roman-era collections. Building itsef is quite fascinating. I want to be a princess, or better yet a knight so I can defend the castle and launch cannons at the boats coming into the harbor.

Saturday
Zurich
Molly, Anna, Sharron and I to Zurich today (3 hour drive). Biggest city I’ve been to so far. Too much to do in one day so must go back to visit the Gestalt Museum, the poster museum (!!!!!!), the Dada museum (Zurich is the birthplace), and the last building ever designed by Le Corbusier, which has been turned into a museum. Also book shops galore that I wanna get lost in for a few good years.
Did visit the 14th century Fraumunster with stained glass windows by Marc Chagall and Augusto Giacometti. Then smaller Grossmunster founded in the 9th century by Charlemagne.
Onto the Kunsthaus Museum. Very nice museum with many of the post-renaissance movements represented and most of the major modern artists represented. Possible second visit in the future? Yes please.
Lovely stroll through old town then on to the lawn of the Swiss Natural Museum for a cheap picnic dinner complete with wine straight from the bottle and a sausage thingy I’m pretty sure wasnt actually food. Must remember to spend more $ on dinner than morning’s coffee.
Good art, good traveling companions, good times.

Sunday
Went to Gruyere (dairy town) with the ladies.

Started out at the Chateau which was built 1270-1282. It is very interesting, a very small old town out in the middle of the country, and most of the buildings havent been updated much, so it gives a real feeling of the way life was.
The interior rooms were very diverse and exquisitely furnished and adorned.
Also they have cannons and armor on display. I really wanted to play capture the castle.

Next we went to the Cheese factory/restaurant. They have four 4800-litre vats where they make the cheese and a vault where 7000 wheels of gruyere can get good and stinky. We had a lovely fondue lunch.

On our way back to Geneva we stopped in Nyon and had drinks and walked around the harbor. Lots of people out and about and all the pubs had stands set up in the park. Happy vibe.

A very good weekend.
